The upcoming overtime strike by unionized maintenance workers at the STM is set to begin tonight, impacting essential services. The Administrative Labour Tribunal has ruled that the strike will cause inconvenience to users but poses no immediate danger to public safety. The union, representing 2,400 employees, plans to strike from midnight tonight until January 11.
While the strike may lead to service disruptions, the paratransit service will continue unaffected. The STM assures that metro services will operate at full capacity throughout the strike period due to available residual vehicles. Bus services will also be maintained, although there may be shortages of vehicles as the strike progresses.
STM Executive Director, Marie-Claude Léonard, warns that the combination of the holiday season and the strike may impact bus services, leading to disruptions. This will be the fourth strike by the Fédération des employé(e) de services publics union, affiliated with the CSN, with previous strikes occurring in June, September-October, and November.
To stay updated on real-time information, public transit users are advised to check the STM website and apps at stm.info/greve.
