The maintenance employees at Société de transport de Montréal (STM) have initiated the fourth phase of their job action by refusing to work overtime.
Starting at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, the overtime strike by STM’s 2,400 maintenance workers will run until 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 11. Despite this, the STM assures that bus services will run on schedule throughout the strike period, although there may be instances of a shortage of available vehicles due to repair delays.
Fortunately, the paratransit service will not be impacted by the strike. Additionally, the STM guarantees that métro service will remain fully operational at all times during the strike, thanks to a reserve capacity of available vehicles.
This strike marks the fourth time the CSN-affiliated union has taken action this year, having previously walked off the job in June, September, and October. The Quebec Administrative Labour Tribunal recently approved the essential services plan for the strike, ensuring adequate coverage, even during statutory holidays.
