Residents of Delta are set to benefit from improved access to urgent primary care services with the recent opening of a new clinic in the area. The South Delta After-Hours Urgent and Primary Care Centre, located on Canoe Pass Way in Tsawwassen, will operate from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
Mayor George Harvie of Delta initiated the move earlier this year by advocating for the establishment of an urgent and primary care facility in the city, addressing the lack of such services in the region. Following discussions with Minister Josie Osborne, the ministry and health authorities took action to fulfill the need for accessible healthcare.
While acknowledging the progress made, Mayor Harvie emphasized that more centers are needed, especially in North Delta, which houses a significant portion of the population. His aim is to ensure comprehensive coverage for all residents of the city, both in the northern and southern areas.
The newly opened clinic offers prompt care for various non-emergency health issues such as sprains, minor cuts, fevers, and infections, with a focus on addressing concerns within 12 to 24 hours. It is projected to cater to approximately 6,000 patients annually, serving as a vital resource for the community’s healthcare needs.
