Police Cruiser in Surrey Fatally Hits Pedestrian in Tragic Accident

The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO) is currently conducting an investigation following a tragic incident involving a Surrey Police Service (SPS) officer who struck and fatally injured a woman on Sunday evening.

According to reports, the collision occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of 152 Street and 64 Avenue in Surrey’s South Newton neighborhood. Despite prompt medical assistance from SPS officers, Surrey Fire Service personnel, and BCEHS paramedics, the woman unfortunately succumbed to her injuries at the collision site.

Following the incident, the intersection was temporarily closed for investigation purposes, but has since been reopened to the public.

The IIO’s involvement in this case is standard procedure for any police-related incident resulting in death or serious injury, irrespective of any allegations of misconduct.
