PQ Urges Legault to Seize Back Control of Mont-Sainte-Anne Amid Growing Concerns

The Parti Québécois (PQ) is urging the Legault government to cancel its contract with the current operator of Mont-Sainte-Anne ski resort and reclaim authority over the site. This call comes after the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) mandated the closure of four ski lifts due to safety concerns.

The PQ alleges that Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) has mismanaged the resort, resulting in its deterioration through lack of investment. Issues such as ski lift malfunctions, a gondola incident, a collapsed footbridge, sinking parking lot, and the demolition of the Crête summit chalet have raised serious safety and maintenance questions.

PQ representative Pascal Paradis emphasized the pattern of incidents as evidence of RCR’s inability to ensure the safety of Mont-Sainte-Anne. The RBQ’s recent closure of ski lifts prompted the postponement of the resort’s planned opening over the weekend.

Calling for decisive action, the PQ insists that the Quebec government should sever ties with RCR and regain control of the Mont-Sainte-Anne facilities. Pascal Paradis suggested that if necessary, special legislation could be enacted for this purpose. Additionally, the PQ demands the cancellation of the $50 million investment agreement between Quebec and RCR for enhancing the ski area and installing new ski lifts.
