A Toronto homebuilder, Albion Building Consultant Inc., has been slapped with over $1 million in fines by Ontario’s construction regulator for constructing 39 homes without proper licensing or registration. The Home Construction Regulatory Authority recently filed 124 charges against the company for illegally building and selling these homes, which were found to lack a valid license and enrollment in the province’s warranty plan as mandated by law.
Albion is required to pay fines totaling $1,018,750, with the proceeds designated for the municipality where the violations took place. This is not the first time Albion has faced legal issues, as the company has a history of non-compliance and previous convictions for similar offenses dating before 2024.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying a home builder’s license before engaging in any contractual agreements. Prospective homebuyers are urged to consult the province’s builder directory to ensure a builder’s licensing status.
