A man from British Columbia faces multiple charges in Calgary after causing a disturbance downtown. Calgary police responded to reports of a driver passed out behind the wheel of his truck, which led to disruptions in CTrain service.
The incident unfolded at the intersection of 5 Avenue and 9 Street SW, where a black GMC Sierra was found with the driver slumped over and the vehicle running. The situation escalated as the truck’s brake lights were on, and the CTrain barrier had fallen onto the truck bed.
Concerned for public safety, officers took immediate action to contain the vehicle and prevent any potential accidents. Despite efforts to wake the driver using sirens and loudspeakers, the driver remained unresponsive, prompting the police to break into the vehicle to reach him.
Upon gaining access, authorities discovered open alcohol, drug paraphernalia, and a hidden folding knife on the driver. Subsequent searches revealed crystal meth, crack cocaine, nitrous oxide cannisters, and over $500 in cash. The estimated street value of the seized drugs amounted to $5,100.
Traffic Section Insp. Rob Patterson emphasized the danger posed by the driver’s actions, stating that they put pedestrians, motorists, and CTrain passengers at risk. He commended the bravery of patrol officers for their swift response in averting a potential disaster.
The accused, 41-year-old Cody Stephen Roderick Allen from Kelowna, faces charges including drug possession for trafficking, impaired driving, carrying a concealed weapon, and several others. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 14.
