Burnaby RCMP have announced that criminal charges have been officially filed against a group involved in a significant mail theft scheme that occurred last year.
The investigation was initiated after two break-ins took place at an apartment building on Telford Avenue in October 2024, leading authorities to identify a group of suspects.
In a decisive move, a search warrant was executed at a Burnaby residence in December 2024, resulting in the arrest of four men. Subsequently, two more individuals were apprehended in connection with the case.
During the search operation, a staggering total of nearly 1,600 stolen items were recovered, encompassing 346 pieces of identification, 572 items of mail, 496 bank cards, and 155 cheques. Additionally, law enforcement officers discovered an embossing machine and materials used in the production of counterfeit identification documents.
The B.C. Prosecution Service officially pressed 25 charges against five men on November 26, 2025, including offenses such as break and enter, mail theft, possession of stolen property, and forgery, among others.
Expressing his admiration for the dedicated work of the Burnaby RCMP’s Prolific Offender Suppression Team, Sgt. Jamie Belleville stated in a press release, “These types of investigations can be extremely tedious and very detailed. I am very proud of our Prolific Offender Suppression Team for getting this investigation to this point.”
The accused individuals are currently awaiting their court date.
