Montreal firefighters are once again spreading holiday cheer by delivering food and toy baskets to families in need across the city. In its 38th year, this heartwarming initiative aims to provide support to Montreal households during a time of rising living costs.
A total of 1,266 baskets will be distributed, with 566 large baskets for families, 200 small baskets for two-person households, and 500 baskets for single individuals. These baskets, filled with essentials and toys, are a symbol of hope and generosity for those facing challenges during the festive season.
Chris Ross, Lieutenant and President of the Montreal Firefighters Association, expressed the importance of this long-standing tradition, highlighting the direct impact firefighters have on the community. Over the years, more than 40,000 families have benefited from this initiative, showcasing the dedication of the firefighters to support their neighbors in need.
Valued at $470 each, the large baskets will be personally delivered to homes by off-duty or retired firefighters, demonstrating their commitment to going above and beyond to assist vulnerable families. The Mayor of Montreal, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, commended the firefighters for their exceptional efforts in supporting the most vulnerable members of the community.
This annual campaign is made possible by the hard work of firefighters, volunteers, Montreal auxiliary firefighters, the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal, and generous sponsors like the Caisse Desjardins du Réseau municipal, Burrowes, and Olymbec.
