BC Ferries has announced the cancellation of certain sailings to and from Vancouver Island on Thursday due to high winds impacting B.C.’s south coast.
Prioritizing the safety of passengers and crew, the company is heeding Environment and Climate Change Canada’s (ECCC) severe weather forecast.
ECCC issued a special weather statement alerting to the presence of strong southwesterly winds in specific areas, including Metro Vancouver, Surrey, Langley, and Fraser Valley.
According to ECCC, an approaching low-pressure system is expected to bring winds of up to 80 km/h in certain regions, gradually subsiding later in the evening.
Cancelled sailings between Nanaimo and Vancouver and between Victoria and Vancouver have been reported by BC Ferries. Passengers with affected bookings will be contacted by the Customer Service Centre for possible rebooking solutions or refunds.
BC Ferries cautions that further cancellations may occur if weather conditions do not improve and advises passengers to stay updated on sailing statuses through the company’s website or customer service.
