“Lower Mainland Buffeted by Unrelenting Wind and Rain”

The west coast braces for more rainy and windy weather on Thursday, with the North Shore, Coquitlam, and Howe Sound expected to bear the brunt of it, anticipating up to 70 millimetres of rain. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a special weather statement cautioning residents in areas like Surrey, Langley, and the Fraser Valley about strong southwesterly winds reaching up to 80 km/h, potentially causing power outages and falling debris. This weather event comes on the heels of major storms that affected BC Hydro customers in the Lower Mainland, with power restored to most but a few still experiencing outages. Additionally, Abbotsford has lifted evacuation orders and alerts, though road closures persist in some areas following flooding concerns from recent atmospheric rivers hitting the south coast of BC.
