The region is in for a wild weather ride as an unpredictable weather system brings rain, strong winds, and temperature swings. A yellow wind warning is in effect for several areas on Friday.
Expect the rain to ease off by Friday afternoon, leaving behind mainly cloudy skies with a 40% chance of lingering rain showers or flurries. Rainfall is predicted to total 10 to 15 millimetres, and temperatures will start at a high of 8°C before plummeting to zero later in the day.
The yellow warning indicates the danger of powerful southwesterly winds reaching speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour in the afternoon and evening. Areas affected include Greater Montreal Area, Drummondville, and the Bois-Francs region. The winds will initially come from the southeast at 30 kilometres per hour, gusting to 50, before shifting to the southwest, reaching 60 kilometres per hour, gusting to 90. The winds are expected to gradually subside overnight. There is a possibility of localized power outages due to the strong winds.
As the night progresses on Friday, a few flurries are expected to end by midnight, with skies clearing afterward. Localized blowing snow is likely during the evening hours. Temperatures will drop to -7°C, with a wind chill of -16°C.
Saturday will see some improvement with mainly sunny skies in the morning giving way to increasing cloudiness in the afternoon. Winds will be calmer, and the high will be around -3°C, with a wind chill near -14°C. Snow is forecasted for Saturday night with a low of -2°C.
Sunday will remain overcast with a 40% chance of flurries or rain showers and gusty winds. The high will be around 1°C. Cloudy periods will persist into Sunday night with temperatures dipping to -11°C.
Monday is expected to bring a mix of sun and clouds with a high of -6°C, followed by clear skies overnight and a low of -13°C.
