York Regional Police have announced that a man from Toronto has been arrested and charged in connection with a string of 28 residential break-ins that occurred overnight across the region. This comes after a thorough investigation known as Project Lone Wolf was launched.
Starting in October 2024, authorities initiated the probe in response to a series of break-ins that targeted homes left unattended. The suspects involved reportedly disabled security systems and cameras by cutting wires and using radio frequency jammers before making off with valuables such as jewelry, handbags, cash, and other items.
These incidents took place during the fall and winter months, often when homeowners were away. York Regional Police collaborated with other law enforcement agencies, including Durham Regional Police, Halton Regional Police, and the Ontario Provincial Police, to track down suspects and collect evidence.
Sean Mackey, a 48-year-old man from Toronto, was apprehended on November 19 on two outstanding warrants. Following his arrest, Mackey was charged in relation to 28 residential break-ins that occurred between January 2024 and October 2025.
He is now facing a slew of charges, including multiple counts of break and enter, trespassing, possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit a crime, and various other offenses. A search warrant executed at a Toronto residence led to the recovery of items related to the crimes.
Authorities are urging individuals who may have fallen victim to a rear-door glass smash-and-grab break-in between April and November 2025 to come forward. York Regional Police have released Mackey’s photo, believing that there could be more individuals affected. A link to the recovered items has been provided by the police.
The investigation into these incidents continues actively.
