“Teen Mastermind and Accomplices Nabbed in Harrowing Carjacking Rampage”

Peel Regional Police have apprehended three individuals in connection with a string of violent carjackings that occurred in the Region of Peel earlier this month.

According to authorities, a series of carjackings took place over a few days. The first incident involved a suspect vehicle deliberately colliding with a BMW SUV near Humberwest Parkway and Queen Street East in Brampton on Dec. 10 around 8:40 p.m. The victim escaped on foot, and the damaged vehicle was later discovered abandoned.

Three days later, on Dec. 13 around 5:20 p.m., three individuals armed with a knife approached a driver near Eglinton Avenue and Ridgeway Drive in Mississauga. The driver handed over the keys, and the suspects drove off in the stolen vehicle, which was later involved in a crash on Highway 403. The suspects were then observed entering the same vehicle used in the initial carjacking.

On Dec. 15, at approximately 5 p.m., law enforcement spotted the suspect vehicle near Dundas Street West and Winston Churchill Boulevard. The occupants, clad in masks and gloves, were apprehended with the help of K9 and Tactical Units, putting a stop to another potential carjacking.

One of the arrested individuals, 18-year-old Tayvien Coley from Toronto, faces charges including conspiracy to commit robbery, wearing a disguise with intent, and possession of stolen property. His photo has been made public.

The other two suspects, both 16-year-old males from Brampton and Mississauga, have been charged with similar offenses, including conspiracy to commit robbery, wearing a disguise with intent, possession of stolen property, and breaching a release order. Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, their identities cannot be disclosed.

A search warrant conducted at a residence in Mississauga resulted in the confiscation of items related to the offenses.

Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich of the Peel Regional Police emphasized the seriousness of the crimes and the impact on the victims and the community:

“These were violent crimes that will have a lasting effect on the victims and our community,” he stated. “The arrests put an end to this crime spree, protect others in our neighborhoods from becoming targets, and ensure that the perpetrators are held responsible for their actions.”
