Vancouver’s Concord Dragon Boat Festival Unveils Exciting New Summer Schedule!

Organizers have reached a solution following the cancellation of the annual Concord Dragon Boat Festival in Vancouver due to a clash with the FIFA World Cup.

Dragon Boat BC has confirmed that a scaled-down version of the beloved event will make a comeback in 2026. Issues surrounding security and event regulations near BC Place during the FIFA World Cup led to the festival’s cancellation, leaving participants uncertain about its future.

In an exciting update, Dragon Boat BC has released the 2026 race calendar, promising a festival experience that will be truly unique. Operations Director Dominic Lai has revealed that the events will span from May to September, offering a prolonged celebration for enthusiasts.

Despite initial disappointment, paddlers are hopeful for the upcoming season. While acknowledging that nothing can replace the Concord festival’s magic, Lai is optimistic that the six smaller events planned will capture its essence.

The series of dragon boat races and festivals will take place in various locations, including Vancouver, Harrison Lake, and Richmond. The highlight of the calendar, a summer regatta, is scheduled for Aug. 22 at False Creek.

Lai emphasized the importance of community in navigating these changes, expressing gratitude for the support received. The focus remains on uniting the community through these events, ensuring a positive impact for all involved.

Stay tuned for more updates as additional races and events will be revealed in the coming year. The festival is anticipated to return to its regular schedule in 2027, promising a grand comeback for dragon boat enthusiasts.
