Over 93,000 Quebec households woke up without power on Saturday morning due to strong winds overnight.
The regions hit hardest by the power outages were Laurentides and Capitale-Nationale, with around 11,000 customers each left in the dark as they started their day. The situation was particularly severe in the Eastern Townships, where over 17,000 homes, businesses, and companies were without power.
Even as the sun rose, Environment Canada’s wind warnings remained in place for Beauce, Estrie, and Coaticook near the Canada-U.S. border, where wind gusts reached up to 90 kilometers per hour.
Strong winds were also reported in the Lower St. Lawrence region, North Shore, Saguenay, and Gaspé Peninsula, contributing to the widespread power outages.
The main cause of the outages was vegetation interfering with power lines, primarily from tree branches.
