The Dallas Stars delivered an impressive performance against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday night, securing a convincing 5-1 victory. Jason Robertson broke his goal drought, scoring his first goal in 10 games against Toronto, the only team he hadn’t scored against. Jake Oettinger shone in goal, making 27 saves to secure his 16th win of the season.
Sam Steel’s early third-period goal proved to be the game-winner for the Stars, who extended their winning streak to four games. Jamie Benn, Mavrik Bourque, and Justin Hryckowian also found the back of the net for Dallas.
On the other side, Scott Laughton managed to score the lone goal for the struggling Leafs, who are returning home after a winless 0-3-0 road trip, including back-to-back losses.
Robertson’s 23rd goal of the season gave Dallas an early 1-0 lead, reinforcing his status as one of the top scorers in the league. Oettinger, who is now tied for the most goaltender wins in the NHL, even contributed with an assist on Bourque’s empty-net goal.
Despite some late pressure from Toronto, including key saves by Oettinger on Auston Matthews and others, the Stars held on for their first home victory against the Maple Leafs since 2017.
In a unique twist, the win marked Jason Robertson’s first victory in six games where his younger brother, Nick, played for the Maple Leafs.
Toronto’s struggling power play faltered once again, going 0-for-4 and dropping to a league-worst 13.3% success rate.
