Toronto Police Shoot Suspect after Violent Double Stabbing in North York

The Ontario police watchdog has been called in to investigate an incident where a Toronto officer shot a suspect accused of stabbing two individuals in the city’s north end on Monday afternoon.

Reported by the Toronto Police Service, the event occurred just before 3:30 p.m. near Jane Street and Shoreham Drive, located south of Steeles Avenue West. Police were responding to reports of an individual wielding a knife, leading to the discovery of two victims with stab wounds. One victim was promptly transported to a hospital, although the extent of their injuries remains unknown. The authorities did not disclose further details regarding the stabbings.

Following the discovery of the victims, a male suspect armed with an “edged weapon” was shot by a police officer. The circumstances that led to the shooting are not yet clear.

The suspect was also taken to a hospital, with the severity of their injuries awaiting confirmation. Additionally, two officers sustained minor injuries during the incident, the nature of which has not been disclosed.

The Toronto Police Service indicated that the Special Investigations Unit, Ontario’s agency responsible for investigating significant police-related incidents, has initiated an inquiry into the matter.
