Two individuals were hurt in an unusual incident on Monday when a driver accidentally drove their vehicle off the second-floor edge of a parking structure in Richmond, causing it to land upside-down on the street below.
According to the Richmond RCMP, the authorities were alerted to the situation on Cambie Road near No. 3 at approximately 3:20 p.m.
Despite the accident, the two elderly occupants were successfully rescued by emergency personnel and taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, as reported by the Mounties on Tuesday.
However, the BC Emergency Health Services painted a different picture, stating that both patients were in a “serious condition” when they were taken by paramedics.
Images captured at the scene depict a medium-sized vehicle overturned on its roof, positioned beneath a damaged metal fence bordering an open-air parkade.
As investigations continue, the police are striving to piece together the events leading up to the crash and the specifics of each individual’s involvement.
The aftermath of the collision, including scattered debris, remained visible the next morning.
