A baby was found crying in a shoebox at St. Monica’s Catholic Church just days before Christmas. Instead of condemnation, the church’s pastor, Father Damian Young-Sam-You, chose to approach the situation with optimism and compassion.
The infant, discovered by parishioners and later taken to SickKids hospital, is reported to be in good health. The mother has also been located and is currently receiving care in the hospital.
Father Young-Sam-You highlighted the positive aspects of the situation, emphasizing the well-being of the child and the mother receiving necessary support. He expressed hope that if the mother decides on adoption, a loving family will welcome the child.
The baby’s cries were heard by churchgoers, leading to the discovery of the infant in a shoebox. Despite initial shock and concern, Father Young-Sam-You urged his congregation to show understanding and empathy.
Toronto police responded to the incident, confirming that both the baby and mother are receiving care. The circumstances surrounding the discovery remain under investigation.
Father Young-Sam-You expressed gratitude that the mother entrusted the church with the infant, acknowledging her decision to seek help and care for the child.
