Canadian Authorities Seize Over 26 Kilograms of Cocaine Hidden in Frozen Fruit Shipment
Canadian authorities have intercepted a significant drug smuggling attempt, seizing more than 26 kilograms of cocaine concealed in a shipping container filled with frozen fruit from Colombia. The discovery was made at the Tsawwassen Container Examination Facility on October 31, where officers, assisted by detector dogs, found 23 bricks of cocaine cleverly hidden in the ceiling of the container, which was falsely declared as a shipment of frozen fruit.
The Canada Border Services Agency has turned over the confiscated drugs to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s drug and organized crime investigators for further action. This bust is part of a larger effort by the agency, with over 10,000 narcotic seizures made by its officers from January to October, totaling more than 700 kilograms of cocaine.
Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree has expressed concerns over drug cartels continually attempting to breach Canada’s borders, emphasizing the ongoing challenges faced in maintaining border security.
