In 2025, the long-awaited dream of having a professional women’s hockey team in Vancouver became a reality.
The journey began in the previous spring when the Professional Women’s Hockey League granted Vancouver its very first expansion franchise. This exciting news came after the city had demonstrated its immense support for women’s hockey by drawing nearly 20,000 fans during the PWHL’s Takeover Tour in January.
After much anticipation, the city was thrilled to announce the birth of its new team, officially named the Vancouver Goldeneyes. What made this team even more special was the fact that they are the first in PWHL history to have their logo placed at center ice in the iconic Pacific Coliseum, signifying it as their exclusive home.
From the overwhelming support shown by thousands of fans to the electrifying energy of the sellout crowd on opening night, the Goldeneyes have quickly proven themselves to be more than just Vancouver’s latest professional sports franchise. They are the team that the city and its passionate fans have been eagerly awaiting.
