Court Rejects RAPLIQ’s Groundbreaking Class Action Suit Against Montreal’s STM

After a decade-long legal battle, a class action lawsuit filed by Regroupement des activistes pour l’inclusion au Québec (RAPLIQ) and Linda Gauthier against Société de transport de Montréal (STM), Agence régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM), Exo, and the City of Montreal on behalf of individuals with disabilities has been rejected by the Superior Court.

Despite acknowledging the discrimination faced by the plaintiffs regarding access to public transportation services in Montreal, the Court ruled in favor of the defendants citing financial and logistical constraints. RAPLIQ expressed disappointment with the decision, emphasizing the importance of accessibility for all members of society.

The organization plans to review the judgment and may consider appealing the ruling with the support of disabled individuals, community groups, and allies. RAPLIQ aims to continue its fight against discrimination and promote inclusivity for all vulnerable populations.
