Health Canada Cracks Down on Illegal Health Products in Maple Ridge Stores

Maple Ridge Nutrition Stores Warned About Seized Unauthorized Health Products

Health Canada has issued a cautionary alert following the confiscation of various unauthorized health products from two nutrition and supplement outlets in Maple Ridge.

The seized items, totaling dozens, encompass injectable peptides, anabolic steroids, and testosterone compounds commonly utilized for purposes such as bodybuilding, anti-aging, athletic performance enhancement, or weight management.

The two stores implicated in the incident are under scrutiny by health authorities. Health Canada emphasizes that these products lack official authorization, and their safety, efficacy, and quality remain uncertified. Notably, one of the seized products, Clenbuterol, is typically prescribed for equine treatment.

According to Health Canada, the impounded substances also include Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators, unapproved for usage in Canada and not subjected to safety evaluations. Health risks associated with these androgen drugs encompass potential liver damage, heart complications, and strokes.

Further items seized comprise a prescription drug designated for post-menopausal breast cancer patients and another for managing high blood pressure, both unauthorized for retail in Canada. Importantly, these products may have adverse interactions with existing medications.

Health Canada advises individuals in possession of these unauthorized products to refrain from consumption and to seek medical advice if they have already used them and are experiencing health-related apprehensions.

The agency stresses the importance of procuring prescription drugs solely from licensed pharmacies and checking for Health Canada’s approval by verifying the product labels. Authorized health products bear an eight-digit identifier such as Drug Identification Number (DIN), Natural Product Number (NPN), or Homeopathic Drug Number (DIN-HM).
