“Operation Red Nose Rides to the Rescue: Free Sober Driving Service Lights Up 12 Quebec Regions on Christmas Eve and Day!”

Operation Red Nose volunteers are gearing up for their 42nd year of service, ensuring Quebecers get home safely across a dozen regions in the province.

Executive director Marilyn Vigneault confirms that in Montreal and other areas, the service will be operational on New Year’s Eve from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. The Operation Red Nose app provides details on volunteer presence in areas such as Beauce-Etchemins, Drummondville, Quebec City-Lévis, and more.

Users are encouraged to check the app or organization’s website for service availability in their region, with varying hours depending on the area. Vigneault stresses the importance of planning travel arrangements, suggesting options like designated drivers, overnight stays, or taxis if Red Nose is unavailable.

Last year, over 600 rides were provided on Dec. 24 and 25 combined, with this year’s campaign already exceeding 10,000 rides by mid-December. Vigneault emphasizes the consistency in numbers from year to year, highlighting the potential accidents prevented with each ride.

Nearly 9,500 volunteers have already joined the fleet by mid-December, with sign-ups still open for last-minute holiday celebrations until New Year’s Eve. The service, running until Dec. 31, is free but accepts donations to support its mission of safe rides for all.
