An individual has been hospitalized with serious, yet non-life-threatening injuries following a fire that occurred outside a church building in downtown Toronto early on Friday morning, as per officials.
The incident prompted Toronto Fire Services personnel to respond to the location on Charles Street East, situated just beyond Yonge Street, shortly after 6 a.m.
According to a spokesperson speaking to 680 NewsRadio Toronto, emergency crews were dispatched to the scene following reports of a fire involving garbage on the premises.
Upon arrival, responders discovered debris ablaze in front of the building. The spokesperson confirmed that the fire was extinguished, with no signs of it spreading into the structure.
A representative from Toronto Paramedic Services stated that the injured man was transported to a hospital and is currently in stable condition.
In the meantime, local police officers were observed monitoring the area that had been cordoned off on Friday morning.
An investigation is presently in progress to determine the cause of the fire and the events leading up to it.
