The ski season in Quebec got off to an early and exciting start this year as winter arrived with a bang. Ski resorts like Le Massif de Charlevoix have been bustling with activity, thanks to the perfect mix of natural snowfall and ideal temperatures for snowmaking.
Isabelle Vallée, spokesperson for Le Massif de Charlevoix, shared that the resort has been enjoying excellent conditions for skiing due to the cold weather in late November and early December. The combination of natural and artificial snow has resulted in top-notch slopes that are expected to last throughout the season.
With a forecast of around 20 centimetres of snow early next week, the outlook for the season is very promising, according to Vallée. As of December 27, Le Massif has already opened nearly double the number of trails compared to last year, with 28 out of 53 trails ready for skiers and snowboarders.
The enthusiasm for winter sports has been palpable, with avid enthusiasts flocking to the slopes since the season opened on December 6. Maxim Cloutier, owner of the Gai-Luron cross-country ski center, mentioned the exceptional snowfall they’ve been experiencing, making for fantastic trail conditions.
Cloutier highlighted the special nature of this winter, noting that the center rarely had to close due to adverse weather, unlike previous years. Thanks to consistent snowfall and the right weather conditions, the ski season has kicked off on a high note, setting a positive tone for the holidays and beyond.
The Weather Network’s prediction of a traditional Quebec winter seems to be coming true, with below-normal temperatures and heavy snowfall attributed to the influence of La Niña and a prevailing polar vortex. This winter wonderland has not only delighted ski resorts and outdoor enthusiasts but has also brought a sense of magic and joy to the region.
