“Nearly One-Third of Canadians Set to Switch Careers in 2026, Reveals New Study”

A recent study by talent management firm Robert Half reveals that a significant number of professionals in Canada are considering changing jobs in the upcoming year. The survey, which included nearly 2,000 working and job-seeking Canadians, found that one in three respondents are planning to make a job switch in the first half of the year, marking a seven percent increase from July 2025.

Michael O’Leary, the senior regional director at Robert Half Eastern Canada, suggests that the rising demand for workers may be alleviating concerns about the economy and global events, prompting individuals to feel more at ease about making career moves.

The study highlights that improved perks and benefits are a key driving force behind employees exploring new job opportunities, with competitive compensation and limited career advancement prospects in their current roles ranking high on the list of factors influencing their decisions.

In interviews with Montrealers, many echoed O’Leary’s observations. Some cited the need for change or additional income to make ends meet, while others expressed optimism about finding a job they truly enjoy in a more favorable market.

The study indicates that technology professionals, Generation Z workers, and working parents are among those most likely to be considering a job change in the coming year. O’Leary attributes this trend to the valuable skills possessed by individuals in these groups, particularly in tech-related fields.

Despite the positive outlook, experts caution that job seekers may encounter challenges such as stiff competition, finding the right work environment, showcasing their skills effectively, and navigating a rigorous hiring process.

O’Leary advises job seekers to prioritize networking and enhancing their digital presence on platforms like LinkedIn. Conducting thorough research on their career goals and ensuring that potential opportunities align with their aspirations are also crucial steps for those looking to make a successful career move.
