2025 Year in Review: Tragic Horseshoe Bay Bus Crash Claims Young Life

A tragic event took place this spring in West Vancouver’s Horseshoe Bay, shattering a family and community. On a warm, sunny day on May 28, four-year-old Leonardo was killed in a heartbreaking accident. While his mother, Silvana Schramm, was pushing him in a stroller near the ferry terminal, a bus suddenly veered off course, fatally striking Leonardo and another woman.

Silvana, who underwent numerous surgeries and sustained severe injuries in the incident, was unaware of her son’s passing until she woke up in the hospital, months later. Devastated by the loss of her only child, she recalls the painful moments of the crash and struggles to come to terms with life without her beloved son.

In the midst of this tragedy, a family friend, AJ Caridi, initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support Silvana and her family. Despite the immense grief, Silvana’s strength and resilience shine through as she remembers Leonardo as a sweet and precious boy, forever etched in her heart.

The community came together to honor Leonardo’s memory as he was laid to rest overlooking a bus stop in a Vancouver cemetery. The investigation into this heart-wrenching incident by the West Vancouver Police remains ongoing, seeking answers and justice for the affected families.
