A tragic incident occurred at Banff Sunshine Village in Alberta as a Toronto woman lost her life while skiing on Saturday. Farah Merchant, a 47-year-old individual described as a kind-hearted soul, leaves behind a son and is being fondly remembered by her family and friends.
The unfortunate event unfolded around 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon when fellow skiers at the resort witnessed the woman falling from the Banff Avenue ski area into a deep snow bank. Despite the swift response of the Sunshine patrol team, the woman, later identified as Farah Merchant, was unresponsive and, tragically, passed away at the scene due to deep snow immersion.
Sunshine spokesperson Kendra Scurfield mentioned that such incidents are rare and deeply impact their team. A family member, Faiz Merchant, expressed profound grief over Farah’s untimely demise, highlighting her roles as a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend who touched many lives with her warmth and compassion.
