Toronto is gearing up for the start of 2026 with a frosty welcome as cold air settles over the city. The New Year’s Eve forecast predicts bone-chilling temperatures with wind chill values plummeting to –15.
This wintry blast follows a mix of freezing rain and strong winds that swept through the region earlier in the week, alongside relatively mild temperatures on Monday morning.
Tuesday’s outlook includes mainly cloudy skies, with a daytime high of –4°C and a chance of flurries dotting the cityscape.
Despite the thermometer reading –4°C, the biting wind chill will make it feel more like –18 in the morning and –12 in the afternoon. Overnight, temperatures are set to dip to –5°C, with a wind chill of –13.
Looking ahead to New Year’s Eve, the cold grip will persist with a daytime high of –4°C and a teeth-chattering overnight low of –13°C. Wind chill values are forecasted to hover around –15.
For those venturing out to catch the dazzling fireworks display, expect dry conditions in the evening with temperatures around –9°C by 8 p.m., dropping further to about –11°C as the clock strikes midnight.
Early celebrants should brace for a chance of light snow in the afternoon, with 2 to 5 centimeters expected across southern Ontario.
As the new year dawns on Toronto, a mix of sun and clouds will greet residents. Despite the sunny spells, it will remain bitterly cold, with morning wind chill values potentially plunging to –20. The daytime high is forecasted to be –7°C before dipping to –11°C overnight.
