Montrealers Brace for Bitter Cold Weekend Ahead
As Montreal plunges into the heart of winter, residents are facing a bitter cold front that shows no signs of relenting. The city woke up to bone-chilling temperatures on Friday, with a biting wind chill of minus-29 degrees Celsius.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the frigid conditions are set to persist through the weekend. Friday will offer a mix of sun and clouds, but temperatures will hover around a high of minus-13 degrees C and a low of minus-19 degrees C. By midday, the mercury will drop to minus-9 degrees C, with the wind making it feel even colder at around minus-21 degrees C in the afternoon.
Saturday’s forecast predicts mainly clear skies, with a high of minus-14 degrees C and a low of minus-18 degrees C. The morning wind chill could plummet to minus-28 degrees C, posing a risk of frostbite for those venturing outside. As night falls, expect increasing cloud cover and a low of minus-18 degrees C, with the wind chill making it feel like minus-25 degrees C.
Heading into Sunday, Montrealers can anticipate sunny conditions with a daytime high of minus-15 degrees C and an overnight low of minus-22 degrees C.
As the workweek kicks off on Monday, the cold snap will linger, bringing with it periods of snow. Daytime temperatures will peak at minus-15 degrees C, dropping to the same level overnight.
Looking ahead, warmer weather is on the horizon. Tuesday will be mostly cloudy, with a high of minus-10 degrees C and a low of minus-6 degrees C. Wednesday will see intermittent snowfall, with temperatures reaching a high of minus-1 degree C and a low of minus-5 degrees C overnight. By Thursday, Montrealers can expect a mix of sun and clouds, with temperatures climbing above freezing to 1 degree C.
With icy surfaces posing a hazard, pedestrians are advised to exercise caution over the weekend. Emergency responders have already treated numerous injuries caused by slips and falls, including fractures and concussions.
