“Toronto’s Recycling Revolution: Private Firm Takes Charge of GTA Collection!”

2026 brings about significant changes to residential recycling in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Starting this year, municipalities are no longer responsible for collecting blue boxes at curbside. Instead, material producers have been mandated by the Ontario government to take charge of this task.

Circular Materials, a national non-profit organization, is now spearheading the recycling program, with Green For Life managing curbside collections. Under the new recycling system, a wider range of items will be accepted, offering greater convenience for residents.

While the roll-out of this system began in 2021, officials highlight the potential for streamlining collection processes and reducing packaging. Despite these changes, there are no adjustments to local recycling pick-up schedules, ensuring continuity for residents.

For any concerns regarding blue box collection, residents can report issues by calling 1-888-921-2686 or filling out an inquiry form.
