Meagan Hawes, a resident of Saint-Hubert on Montreal’s South Shore, found her path to confidence and creativity through small steps that led to big opportunities. From her schooling at Saint Lambert Elementary and Centennial Regional High School to enrolling in the inspiring Adam’s P.A.C.E. program at Champlain College, Hawes discovered a world of possibilities, thanks to the inclusive environment created by Adam Taylor, a program designed for individuals with trisomy 21 like herself.
The experience at Adam’s P.A.C.E. ignited Hawes’ imagination and instilled in her a newfound sense of confidence. After a fulfilling period working as a kitchen helper at Tim Hortons, the unforeseen challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic forced her to reevaluate her path. With more time on her hands, Hawes delved into creative pursuits, particularly drawing inspiration from her brother, a professional photographer and songwriter.
Influenced by artists like Jelly Roll, Hawes ventured into songwriting, finding solace in expressing her emotions through music. The power of music to connect people emotionally resonated deeply with her, especially during reflective moments such as the holidays. Through her songs, including a poignant piece titled “Holding Hands,” Hawes communicates her experiences and dreams, with a long-term aspiration of sharing her music with the world.
Supported by her family and driven by a passion for songwriting, Hawes remains determined to pursue her musical ambitions, learning and growing along the way. She believes in the importance of embracing courage, perseverance, and seizing opportunities, regardless of age or circumstance. Ultimately, Hawes’s story is a testament to the transformative power of following one’s dreams and finding inspiration in life’s journey.
