“Armed Carjacking Thwarted in Markham: Toronto Duo Arrested, Handgun Confiscated”

York Regional Police have apprehended two individuals in connection with an armed carjacking incident that took place in a Markham neighborhood recently.

The incident occurred on Jan. 2 around 6:45 p.m. near Daffodil Avenue and Doncrest Drive when a driver was threatened by an armed suspect. The victim, who had just parked in a residential driveway, was blocked by a suspect vehicle. Fortunately, the victim escaped and alerted the authorities.

After a brief pursuit, the two suspects were captured on foot not far from the scene, and a loaded firearm was seized during the arrest.

Charged in connection with the crime are 33-year-old Jinquan Shen of Toronto and 38-year-old Jett Cortez De Guzman, also from Toronto. They face multiple charges including robbery with a firearm, possession of restricted firearms, disguise with intent, and various probation violations.

Both individuals were reportedly on probation for unrelated offenses at the time of the carjacking attempt. Investigators believe there may be links to other criminal activities involving the accused parties.
