A tragic incident unfolded early Monday morning on Austin Road near Gatineau Place in Burnaby, as confirmed by the Burnaby RCMP. A man lost his life in a two-vehicle collision that occurred around 5:20 a.m.
Despite prompt life-saving efforts by first responders, the man, who was one of the drivers involved, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) has assumed responsibility for delving into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The other driver involved in the collision remained at the site and is actively cooperating with the investigative process.
As the investigation unfolds, roads in the vicinity have been cordoned off to facilitate the police’s work, prompting drivers to seek alternate routes until normal traffic flow is restored.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or possesses dashcam footage from the area to come forward and assist in shedding light on the incident.
Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Laura Hirst emphasized, “If you witnessed the collision and have not yet contacted the police, or if you have relevant dashcam footage, please reach out to our investigators.”
