The Quebec Liberal Party has taken steps to ensure legal compliance and ethical standards in its upcoming leadership race by appointing a dedicated “compliance and ethics officer.” This move comes in the wake of concerns related to campaign financing, prompting the party to announce the appointment as part of the official terms for the selection of Pablo Rodriguez’s successor.
Julien Morisette has been entrusted with the role of “compliance and ethics officer,” with a specific focus on upholding the Election Act, particularly in the area of fundraising practices. The decision to create this position follows the recent resignation of Rodriguez amid public scrutiny over the financing of his leadership bid, ending his brief tenure at the helm of the Quebec Liberal Party.
The process to choose a new leader is set to culminate at a convention scheduled for March 14. The official start of the leadership race is slated for the upcoming Monday, and prospective candidates will have until February 13 at 5 p.m. to declare their intention to run.
