A truck struck a pedestrian, aged 36, on Monday morning near the Montreal exit of the Jacques Cartier Bridge, according to Montreal police (SPVM).
The incident took place just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of De Lorimier Ave. and Logan Street, prompting multiple witnesses to dial 911. Initially feared dead, the pedestrian was later confirmed to be alive by the SPVM.
The injured individual, who was conscious, was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and is currently in stable condition.
The truck driver, a 50-year-old man, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, with no arrests made.
Due to the crash, De Lorimier Ave. southbound had to be completely shut down, leading to significant traffic congestion as commuters returned to work following the holiday season. The resulting traffic backlog extended for about two kilometers on the bridge connecting Longueuil to Montreal.
The SPVM is actively looking into the circumstances of the collision.
