B.C. Government Unveils Bold Expansion Plans for Global Trade

British Columbia’s premier and minister of jobs and economic growth are set to unveil their strategy for expanding the province’s trade into new markets on Tuesday morning. David Eby and Ravi Kahlon will be sharing their plans from Vancouver in a media event at 10:30 a.m.

This anticipated announcement follows a year of intensive efforts by provincial officials in 2025 to boost trade by forging new international partnerships, aiming to decrease B.C.’s reliance on the United States. Premier Eby, along with Minister of Agriculture Lana Popham and Parliamentary Secretary Paul Choi, undertook trips to Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia earlier this year to finalize trade agreements.

In a significant development last November, Eby and Kahlon introduced the ‘Look West’ strategy, outlining their commitment to expanding international trade opportunities and diversifying market connections. Eby emphasized the importance of this strategy in preparing British Columbia for economic uncertainties caused by the U.S. trade conflict and pressures from President Donald Trump.
