“Ice Storm Paralyzes GTA: School Buses Grounded Amidst Widespread Cancellations”

The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is experiencing a bout of freezing rain and messy winter weather, leading to bus cancellations across multiple school boards. While schools are still open, transportation services have been affected in various regions. Here’s a breakdown of the current situation:

The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) has suspended transportation services for all schools on Jan. 6. Classes are proceeding as scheduled, with officials emphasizing that students can attend if they can safely reach the school.

In the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB), all buses in STOPR Zone 3 are cancelled for the day. Transportation is also halted for students of specific schools like St. Andrew, St. Peter, St. Benedict, and Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School, irrespective of their zone. However, schools remain open.

The Peel District School Board (PDSB) has called off all transportation within Zone 3, meaning school buses will not be running to any schools in that area. Nonetheless, schools are operating normally.

Over in Halton, the Halton District School Board (HDSB) has declared that all schools are open, but there will be no school bus service on Tuesday. Families opting to keep their children at home are requested to notify the school about the absence before the day commences.

At the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), transportation services are still operational, but there is a warning about potential disruptions to the afternoon commute due to freezing rain. The board is closely monitoring the situation and advises families to anticipate possible delays.

In Durham Region, hazardous road conditions have led to the cancellation of all school bus services in all zones for the entire day. This includes zones like Brock (Zone 1), Uxbridge (Zone 2), Scugog (Zone 3), and Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, and Oshawa (Zone 4). Despite the bus cancellations, schools will remain open throughout the day.
