A tragic incident in northern Quebec involving a 36-year-old man is set for a court appearance today following a recent exchange of gunfire with Nunavik Police Service officers. The incident, which resulted in the death of a six-year-old girl, has shocked the community of Inukjuak, Que. Andrew Naluktuk is facing multiple charges related to the incident, including discharging a firearm at officers and assaulting them with a weapon. Additionally, he is charged with assault against another individual and causing bodily harm to a child.
According to Quebec’s police watchdog, the altercation occurred when officers responded to a call regarding a potentially dangerous individual at a residence in the early hours of Dec. 20. The shootout led to injuries to the suspect, who was subsequently apprehended, and a second person who was found critically injured inside the home later passed away. The cause of death has not been disclosed by officials.
