“Breaking Barriers: New Accessible Crossing Unites Outremont and Parc-Extension Communities!”

Residents of Outremont, Parc-Extension, and the MIL Montréal university campus now have a new convenient and inclusive pedestrian and cyclist crossing to facilitate their daily commutes. The newly opened level crossing symbolizes the city’s commitment to enhancing mobility for its residents, according to Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada.

Connecting the Nouvel-Outremont sector with Parc-Extension, the crossing serves as a vital link for students, workers, and locals accessing the bustling MIL campus. Outremont Mayor Caroline Braun expressed joy at the long-awaited opening, recognizing the community’s persistent calls for the project over the years.

Mayor Jean-François Lalonde of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension highlighted the significance of the new connection in expanding the area and meeting the community’s needs for improved travel safety and efficiency between the two boroughs.

The MIL Montréal project, a collaborative effort with the Université de Montréal, envisions a vibrant and sustainable urban space where academia, research, and arts harmoniously coexist. Spanning 118 hectares and encompassing various neighboring boroughs, the project transforms the former Canadian Pacific railway yard into a mixed-use district featuring educational facilities, housing, and extensive public spaces designed through extensive public consultations and a comprehensive long-term land-use plan.
