Commuters traveling from Surrey to New Westminster will need to plan an alternate route for Thursday night as the Pattullo Bridge’s southbound lanes will be closed for construction work. TransLink has announced that the closure will be in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday to facilitate the final stages of the new stal̕əw̓asəm or Riverview Bridge.
This closure will impact all traffic, including cyclists and pedestrians, as crews work on installing a large overhead sign along King George Boulevard in Surrey, where the new bridge connects.
While the northbound lanes on the Pattullo Bridge will remain open, southbound commuters are advised to use the Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges as alternatives.
The stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge recently opened a single northbound lane in late December, marking the initial phase of its completion after years of construction. Transportation Minister Mike Farnworth aims to have all four lanes of the new bridge operational by February, following a planned week-long closure of both bridges in mid-to-late January.
