Brace for Impact: B.C.’s North Coast Faces Snowy, Rain-Soaked Weekend Chaos

Get ready for a wet and wild weather weekend in British Columbia’s northern regions as an atmospheric river system ushers in more winter conditions.

According to Environment Canada, communities like Prince Rupert, Terrace, and Kitimat are bracing for up to 100 millimetres of rain starting today and continuing through Saturday morning. Inland areas of major highways could see around 15 centimetres of snow accumulation.

Wind gusts of up to 120 kilometres per hour are expected along Haida Gwaii and the B.C. coastline, from Prince Rupert down to Port McNeill on Vancouver Island’s northern tip.

Further north, a winter storm warning is in place for Stewart and the South Klondike Highway near the Alaskan Panhandle, where snowfall amounts of up to 40 centimetres are possible. The Cassiar Mountains region in Yukon is also under a snowfall warning, with up to 20 centimetres of snow anticipated, covering a wide area around Watson Lake.
