Montreal authorities are probing two possible arson incidents that targeted a vehicle outside a residence in Beaconsfield during the early hours of Friday.
The Montreal police department (SPVM) was alerted to the first incident at approximately 12:30 a.m. when a concerned citizen dialed 911 to report an attack on a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on Westcroft Street, close to Elm Avenue in Beaconsfield.
Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered that a window of the vehicle had been broken, and suspicious materials had been left nearby.
Later, at 3:45 a.m., a second emergency call was placed to SPVM from the same location reporting a fire. Firefighters promptly responded and successfully extinguished the flames.
Jeanne Drouin, a spokesperson for SPVM, mentioned, “Traces of an accelerant were detected at the site. Fortunately, the vehicle blaze did not result in any visible damage to the property.”
There were no reported injuries, and as of now, no individuals have been apprehended in connection with the incidents.
Drouin added, “Review of surveillance camera footage revealed at least one suspect fleeing the scene before law enforcement’s arrival.”
The investigation will now be overseen by SPVM’s specialized arson division.
