“Richmond Local Faces 2.5 Years Behind Bars in High-Stakes Drug Trafficking Conviction”

A Richmond resident has been convicted and sentenced to 30 months in prison for his involvement in trafficking fentanyl and MDMA, according to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

CBSA initiated an investigation in September 2020 following the interception of prohibited firearm parts from China to Burnaby at the Vancouver International Mail Centre. The individual identified as the importer, Raymond Sun, was apprehended by CBSA in February 2021 at his residence, where a search warrant led to the discovery of 274 grams of MDMA, 284 fentanyl tablets, over $77,000 in cash, and various drug trafficking equipment including scales and money-counting machines.

In September 2022, Sun faced charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl and MDMA, and on March 13, 2025, he was convicted of both offences. His sentencing took place on Dec. 16, 2025, accompanied by a lifetime ban on firearms possession.

CBSA reports that in 2025, officers in the Pacific Region seized over 10,000 illegal narcotics.
