One Injured in Dramatic Surrey House Explosion; Investigation Launched

Firefighters in Surrey swiftly responded to a devastating incident on Friday afternoon, where a house explosion and subsequent fire had taken place. The two-story building on Jersey Drive in Cloverdale was completely consumed by flames upon the arrival of the emergency crews.

Battalion Chief Jeff Klassen of the Surrey Fire Fighters Association (SFFA) reported that responders discovered a young man in his twenties with severe third-degree burns. The individual was located on the front lawn, suffering from extensive injuries, and was promptly airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Despite the destructive nature of the blaze, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control by the evening, although the structure sustained significant damage. Initial assessments suggest that the inferno was sparked by an explosion, the exact cause of which remains a mystery.

The force of the blast was evident as window frames were blown out onto the front yard, with shards of glass strewn across the surrounding street. A collaborative investigation led by the SFFA and the Surrey RCMP’s SPOSU General Investigation Unit is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
