Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that took place in Abbotsford on Friday. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has confirmed that the victim is Navpreet Dhaliwal, a 28-year-old resident of Abbotsford.
IHIT has suggested that the shooting was targeted and connected to the ongoing gang conflict in British Columbia. According to a news release, Mr. Dhaliwal had previous interactions with law enforcement, prompting the release of his name to aid in the investigation.
The incident unfolded when members of the Abbotsford Police Department responded to a residence near Siskin Drive and Sandpiper Drive around 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, they discovered Dhaliwal with severe injuries, and tragically, he succumbed to his wounds at the scene.
Authorities have clarified that the shooting was not related to extortion, dispelling any initial misconceptions.
