“Alert: Intense Rainfall Strikes Lower Mainland, Flood Watch Declared for South Coast Regions”

Get Ready for Rainy Days Ahead in B.C.

As a series of atmospheric rivers sweep across British Columbia’s south coast, it’s time to have your umbrellas at the ready for the next few days.

A rainfall advisory has been issued for the Metro Vancouver and Howe Sound regions, with Environment Canada warning residents to brace for heavy rain. While the weather system began on Saturday, the worst of it is expected to hit on Sunday and continue into Monday.

According to meteorologist Michael Kuss from 1130NewsRadio, the rain will be most intense during the afternoon, evening, overnight, and Monday morning as the atmospheric river descends upon the south coast. The warnings are set to remain in effect until Monday morning.

Anticipate heavy rainfall throughout the period, with some areas expecting up to 125 millimetres of rain, and possibly more in certain locations like the North Shore. Additionally, gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour could also be experienced.

By Monday night, the downpour is forecasted to subside, providing some relief from the relentless rain. However, the Ministry of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship in B.C. has issued a flood watch for several regions including north and west Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast, Howe Sound, and the North Shore Mountains.

The ministry cautions about the possibility of prolonged periods of moderate to heavy rain, coupled with rising temperatures and runoff from snowmelt due to the rain. Temperatures are expected to climb during the week, with significant snowmelt anticipated on Sunday and Monday, especially in the mid-elevation terrains of the affected areas.
