Tragedy Strikes as Fatal House Fire Erupts in Surrey Neighborhood
A devastating incident unfolded on Monday morning in the Panorama Ridge area when a house fire claimed a life, according to Surrey Fire Services.
The blaze engulfed a detached home on 56 Avenue near 128 Street, creating a scene of intense flames and billowing smoke upon the arrival of firefighting crews.
Assistant Chief Geoff McIntyre shared that a dedicated team of 24 firefighters battled the inferno, managing to confine it to the single structure. Despite their efforts, the search for occupants had to be halted when the interior became hazardous due to a roof collapse.
Regrettably, the body of one occupant was discovered by the firefighters, yet the fate of other potential residents remains uncertain.
McIntyre revealed, “Interior searching had to be discontinued shortly after that due to a roof collapse and structural instability.”
As of 9:30 a.m., firefighters were still present at the site, diligently working to fully extinguish any remaining hot spots.
“The cause of the fire is now under investigation,” McIntyre added.
This tragic event has left the neighborhood reeling as authorities continue to gather information and determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal fire.
